HIT THE HAY?

Definition:
go to bed
Examples:
- If you will excuse me, I am going to hit the hay. I have to get up early tomorrow morning.
- Time to hit the hay, kids. You have school tomorrow.
- I was so tired. I had hardly hit the hay before I was asleep.
Note: This has the same meaning as the idiom HIT THE SACK.
It comes from the time when beds were made of fabric bags filled with hay.
