CLEAR ONE’S* THROAT?
Definition:
make a small cough, or sound in your throat before speaking so that your voice doesn’t catch, and you can speak more clearly
Example:
1. I tried to speak but no sound came out. I cleared my throat and tried again.
2. Whenever she is nervous, she clears her throat.
3. Before the Prime Minister started his apology, he turned his head away from the microphone and cleared his throat.
