- When we say something twinkles, we mean it has a small brightness that is not steady. This is a verb that is commonly used with stars.
A popular children’s song has these words:
Twinkle, twinkle, little star
How I wonder what you are.
- Sometimes twinkle is used as a noun to describe someone’s eyes. It is a noun that typically has a very positive meaning. It often suggests that the person has a happy heart, or perhaps they have a happy secret.
- The sun was bright and when it shone on the clean snow, the snow twinkled and looked like it was filled with sparking diamonds. (see example)
- Her grandfather was a wonderful, kind man, who always had a little twinkle in his eye.
