I decided to go with Option #2. It seemed like less work, and plus, I wasn’t sure I could time a serious illness accurately enough to get the hospital stay exactly right.
Two days before the sleepover, I realized that I couldn’t remember where the sleepover was going to be.
I phoned Linda.
“Oh, hi Laura! How are you?”
“Good thanks. Am I calling at a good time?”
“Yeah, sure; I’ve got a few minutes. What’s up?”
“Well, about the sleepover…”
“Uh huh…. what about it?”
“I’ve got the list of who’s bringing CDs, and who is bringing movies, and what snacks we’re all supposed to bring, and I’ve got the date and the time… but I forgot to write down where the sleepover is.”
“Oh!” She paused. “Now that you ask, I’m not quite sure. Was it Geri’s?”
“No, because she has relatives arriving the next day, remember?”
“Oh yeah. Well I know we didn’t decide on Susie’s because they’re renovating.”
One by one we went down the list. It couldn’t be at Iris’s or at Emily’s or at my house, for different reasons.
The only home left as an option was Linda’s.
“It can be here,” she said. “It’s just that Allen will be home, and he has to work the next day so we’ll have to be quiet after 10:00 pm.”
We had no other options, so we agreed to have it at Linda’s and we phoned “the girls” and told them the plan.
Tomorrow, Part 4… with Allen.
