If you want to improve your life, a really great place to start is to improve your English. Have you thought about this? When you meet somebody new, they judge your English 100% by your speech.
Hi, my name is Laura and I’m with the Edmonton English School.
We have a great Pronunciation class at the Edmonton English School but we realize that not everybody lives in Edmonton so we have also found this really terrific online pronunciation program for you.
If you click the link we’ve provided, the page that you see will come up.
I’m going to take you on a little tour inside this today. I know that when I find a new product online I think, “Okay, but if I buy what does it look like behind the button? What will I actually get if I purchase that product?”
So I’m going to take you today into my account, tour you around a little bit and let you see what you would actually get if you registered to buy Pronunciation Power.
We’ll just log in over here. And then we’ll go over to the Welcome button.
Now eEnglish has provided a full package here. Pronunciation Power is just one of the things included. Pronunciation Power 2 is good for intermediate / advanced students.
There is a very sophisticated speech test down here – easy to use and really impressive. Begin there. It will analyze your speech and tell you which sounds to work on first. You can do that speech test over and over and watch yourself improve.
We’ll go into Pro Power 2. We’ll begin with lessons. Today we’re going to work on the /th/ sound. If you mouse over these sounds you get an audio,…ch / th so I’ll click on that one.
There are different things to do here but we’ll just quickly move down here to the description.
Watch the tongue and the teeth and the mouth when I click on this button. – /th/
See how the tongue comes up between the teeth. We get a purple ribbon. On this side the purple ribbon says that sound is obstructed and that’s because the tongue moves up and the air doesn’t flow freely out; the tongue obstructs the air.
On this side we get a little photograph. /th/ Again, you can see that tongue come up between the teeth and you want to practice this section with a mirror in front of you to be sure that your mouth looks the same as their mouth.
Under Exercises there’s a choice of five different things to do.
It begins with Sample Words. The /th/ sound is given to you at the beginning, in the middle, and at the end of a word, which again is just terrific.
With all of these exercises the idea is that you listen to the sound –health- and then you record yourself saying it down here and then compare. Listen to them, and listen to you.
Sometimes with /th/ a lot of people say /t/ so here you can compare – thin/tin
And again, listen, record, and compare their sound and yours.
Listening Discrimination makes sure you can hear the sound when someone else says it.
The crowd seemed to be faceless. You get 10 sentences with every sound.
Stair Exercises help you with linking. In English most of the white spaces are not left blank in speech. We don’t say, “Cath said something.” It’s “Cathsaidsomething.” Cathsaidsomething
And so you can listen, record, and compare – 10 sentences for each sound.
And then down at the very end, sentences where you get extra practice on that /th/ sound –middle, beginning, and the end.
So, just really terrific practice. Again, this is just a packed program.
I would strongly encourage you to give it a try. You can try it for a month, or try it for three.
You get unlimited access for the full month, and recording is just a terrific way to help improve your spoken English.
So, all the best with it, and all the best as opportunities in life come your way because you have taken time to improve your English.
