What is the Meaning of the Expression
NOTHING TO WRITE HOME ABOUT?

Definition:

If someone says something is nothing to write home about, they mean that it is not great.

The idea is that when a person moves away from their family they write letters (emails) home with information they feel is interesting or significant.  If you don’t feel something is interesting or significant, then you would say it is nothing to write home about.

Example:

A:  You went to that new restaurant last night that has all the advertising, didn’t you?

B:  Yeah, we went, but I don’t think I’d go again.  It’s quite expensive and the food is nothing to write home about.
