LIKE A FISH OUT OF WATER?
This is used to describe someone who feels uncomfortable in their surroundings; someone who doesn’t fit in or is awkward in a situation.
1. Everyone at my job loves country music, except me. I like jazz. In the lunch room, they like to talk about upcoming concerts and new songs. I feel like a fish out of water.
2. When we arrived at the barbecue we saw that everyone was dressed very casually. Most of the men were wearing shorts and T-shirts. My friend and I were wearing dress pants, shirts and ties. We sure looked like fish out of water!
